Takeda Biopharmaceuticals, formerly known as Baxalta Bioscience India, has launched its 'Sunrise Patient Services Programme (PSP)' in India for patients with hereditary angioedema (HAE). HAE is a potentially fatal rare genetic disease that affects the limbs, hands, feet, genitals, abdomen, face, and neck. Furthermore, patients frequently experience terrible abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting as a result of intestinal wall enlargement. Swelling of the airways is especially harmful and can result in death by asphyxiation. Sunrise is a patient support programme whose purpose is to see the sun rise on a new day, offering hope to HAE patients in India.
It is based on four components: awareness, screening and diagnosis, treatment, and maintenance care, all of which are provided by an independent patient services agency financed by Takeda. The plan provides free HAE testing through accredited diagnostic labs, as well as field counselling and tele-support services. It also includes navigation of treatment reimbursement and lifestyle counselling throughout the patient's treatment path. "HAE is a lifelong disorder," said Dr. Sandeep Arora, head of medical affairs and patient services. "We at Takeda are highly committed to supporting patients fighting HAE and other rare diseases."
Because of a lack of awareness and diagnostic facilities, this condition is chronically under-recognized in India. Due to a lack of epidemiological data in India, early diagnosis is frequently avoided, and people suffer for the rest of their lives. With the launch of Sunrise PSP, we expect to improve the quality of life for HAE patients in India." The programme launched by Takeda strives to advance healthcare standards and enhance the quality of life in the world of HAE where awareness is limited leading to preventable morbidity and mortality. The company intends to create a positive impact on patients' lives by increasing awareness of HAE and access to free of cost diagnostics & empowering HAE patients to access their treatments with ease and manage their lifestyle comfortably to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives. The patient-service programme has also set up a toll-free helpline number to provide adequate counselling, which will further help in tracking the patient’s symptoms and prompt diagnosis for better health outcomes and improved lifestyle.
