The London Borough of Sutton has confirmed that it has chosen insurer Aviva and developer Socius as partners to progress the development of a world-leading site for cancer research and treatment at the London Cancer Hub (LCH) in Sutton, London.
The landmark investment includes the purchase of a long-term lease for the Aviva and Socius development on a five-acre site close to the prestigious Royal Marsden Hospital and the world-renowned Cancer Institute.
The joint venture will provide one million square feet of research, treatment and innovation space, as well as residences and amenities for residents and visitors. This is one of London's most significant regeneration projects, and once completed, the capital city of Sutton will be home to the world's largest cancer hospital.
Known as the London Cancer Hub, the site has become the number-one site in Europe for cancer research and treatment. As well as the Institute for Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, it is home to cancer care providers Maggie's, the Harris Academy and the council's own Innovation Gateway. High-quality studios, offices and co-working spaces.
The new development will deliver significant social and economic benefits to the UK, adding £1.2 billion to the UK economy and increasing business rates by £12 million. Under the project, 13,000 jobs will be created in health, science, education and construction, as well as spaces for start-ups, growth and established companies.
