India is fast emerging as a key hub for Global Capability Centers (GCCs), changing the way businesses do their work globally. Digital transformation and rapid advancements in technology have, in part, fueled this shift. In the life sciences and healthcare sectors, an increasing number of multinationals are seeing their GCCs as important drivers of growth and innovation.

As part of the Bio Asia Summit 2025, Mitra shared his powerful thought on why he wants to create world-class GCCs in India by identifying three critical pillars for success, efficiency, differentiated capabilities, and integration. Mitra explained that efficient scale development is more than just creating savings; it's about streamlining operations by removing redundancies so that efficiency leads to better productivity, which is key for companies expanding in the global market.

He also spoke about the need or the importance to focus on differentiated capabilities, saying that the GCCs in India are ideally envisioned to drive their capability in very disruptive innovations, right from omnichannel marketing to digital patient engagement platforms scaled for a global frontier.

Successful GCCs are the ones with a homogeneous culture pulling all their members together, wherever he or she may be, towards a set of global objectives. Such an approach helps seep innovation at the very core of an organization.

Other industry titans mingling among the soiree expressed their concurrence that GCCs had for long been viewed only through the prism of cost effectiveness; they indeed serve higher purposes as a fountain of global innovation and a strategic tool for execution. Companies like Bristol Myers Squibb, Novo Nordisk, and Takeda shared similar thoughts by focusing on trust, value, and patient-centric strategies.
