Odisha government is preparing to establish a pharmaceutical manufacturing hub, which has the potential to significantly impact job creation and economic development in the state. In preparation for the major investment summit Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha Conclave 2025, the state government has established an Odisha Pharmaceutical Development Cell (OPDC) to develop a strong ecosystem for the pharmaceutical industry and draw in international investments.
The office led by the chief secretary will act as a link between the state and prospective investors, promoting partnerships and accelerating investment processes. The cell has been assigned the responsibility to develop an extensive Odisha Pharmaceutical Policy 2025 and establish a plan for a specific pharmaceutical special economic zone (SEZ), according to official sources. A gathering of pharmaceutical CEOs has been arranged to draw both multinational and national industry leaders to examine investment opportunities and the business environment in the state. Efforts are underway to create specialized pharmaceutical parks that feature top-tier infrastructure, simplified regulatory approvals, and financial benefits for investors.
Areas on the fringes of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Balasore are under consideration for establishing these parks, due to their advantageous connectivity and current industrial infrastructure. Measures are in progress to establish a top-tier pharmaceutical SEZ in the Khurda-Balasore corridor featuring advanced facilities, officials stated.
