The Covid-19 working group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) will review data from a study conducted by Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore on mixing and matching of Covid-19 vaccines-in a meeting to be held Wednesday. "The meeting will be held today," confirmed a senior government official. The NTAGI has a three-tier decision-making system. The working group is the first level.
After the review by the working group, which will deliberate on the evidence submitted from the study and also review the existing scientific literature on the subject. It will then be taken up by the NTAGI's Standing Technical Sub-Committee (STSC), the second level. STSC members will once again review the evidence, discuss the recommendations of the working group and come to a conclusion.
They then pass this on to the main group of NTAGI, which makes the final decision. Winsley Rose, the principal investigator of the CMC Vellore study, is also in the process of submitting the report to the drug regulator, he told. "We will submit a report today or tomorrow.
They will have to acknowledge and give us the time to present the study results before the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) under India's drug regulator," he said. The government is likely to take make a decision on mixing and matching Covid-19 vaccines as soon as the review is done by both the NTAGI and SEC.
