Norlase, a leading global ophthalmic laser manufacturer developing next-generation laser solutions, announced that the ECHO Green Pattern Laser photocoagulator has received both FDA 510(k) clearance and CE Mark approval. ECHO is a portable scanning laser photocoagulator that uses MEMS technology. The laser and scanner have been fully integrated into a single delivery device that connects to compatible slit lamps. Other unique features include the absence of an external fibre, a wireless user interface, Sec Mode for tissue-saving treatment, and voice control of patterns and parameters.
ECHO's low price point will make pattern scanning technology available to more doctors worldwide, providing them with the tools they need to treat patients more efficiently and effectively. "The FDA clearance and CE mark approval of ECHO is our most significant milestone to date," Norlase CEO and co-founder Oliver Hvidt said. "The introduction of ECHO, the first and only truly portable pattern scanning laser, ushers in a new era for ophthalmologists who treat retinal and glaucoma conditions." Our goal has been to create a pattern laser that is affordable for all ophthalmologists while still maintaining our high level of innovation and precision. All of this is provided by ECHO in a smart, highly intuitive product design that allows surgeons to treat with ease." Early ECHO pattern laser users reported positive experiences with the laser's functionality and treatment results. "The ECHO laser is easy to use, intuitive, and efficient," said Dr. Firas Rahhal, partner at Retina-Vitreous Associates Medical Group. "Even at low power settings, it provides excellent power and uptake."
The visualisation on the slit lamp delivery is excellent, and this was true in one of my cases despite the presence of significant cataract. Because of these features, as well as others such as the simple screen and controls, the ECHO is currently the best available slit lamp pattern laser that I've used." ECHO is Norlase's third product announcement in 2019 and is part of a series of portable and affordable laser solutions that are rapidly modernising the way doctors treat their patients.
ECHO Pattern Scanning Green Laser features include: Smallest physical footprint available in the industry; Full pattern palette that includes grids, circle, and triple arc; µSec Mode for tissue-sparing treatment; Fiberless design to minimize costly service repairs and disruption; Voice control of patterns and parameters; Easily installed on any compatible slit-lamp. Norlase develops next-generation laser solutions for the treatment of retina and glaucoma diseases.
