NIHR has begun its new global health funding stream, driven by the desire to promote global health researchers in poor and middle-income countries (PMI).

GHR Development awards will contribute to developing researchers, providing ideas, and graduating with quality proposals for the NIHR Global Health Research funding programs and other funders.

The new GHR Development Awards aim to intensity global health research by developing the country's research capacity and capability among low and middle-income country researchers and providing high-quality research proposals; establishing fair and sustainable research partnerships; giving aid in high-quality, low and middle-income country-led health research proposals independently directed to the people in the low and middle-income countries.

Up to £100 100,000 can be provided for projects spanning over one year. Research projects may be led by eligible countries for Official Development Assistance based on researchers in their countries or abroad.

Professor Kara Hanson, Programme Director for NIHR’s Global Health Research, said: The aimed global health research development award will be applied to provide essential support to researchers living in low and middle-income countries, thus allowing them to develop the internationally recognized proposals.

Steering the balance to more LMIC applications instead of just UK- British-led research should be the main aspiration of the NIHR Global Health Research Programme

Spiritually, we are excited to receive competitive applications with early career researchers in the lead position. These future global health leaders will be on excellent ground to absorb funding and help countries on their journey to health and economic prosperity.
