To ensure a smooth transition for accredited laboratories, the National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL) has announced that it will extend the transition period for certified laboratories from the original deadline of 31 December 2023 to a revised date of 31 August 2024.This extension gives labs an additional eight months, from 12 to 20 months.

Accredited laboratories are encouraged to follow specific guidelines during this transition period. Laboratories applying for reauthorization must maintain their previous legal identity. In case of malpractice as per NABL norms, the laboratory re-applying for accreditation will be treated as a new laboratory. Any name change or transfer will be treated as a new/new transaction. Laboratories that do not submit a renewal application before expiration will be processed as fresh/new laboratories upon reapplication. It is important to emphasize that all new/new studios are not recognized for their previous legal rights, including copyright and affiliate creation.

N. Venkateswaran, CEO of NABL, highlights the importance of this transition to maintain the integrity and quality of accredited laboratories. The prolonged transition period is intended to provide adequate time for laboratories to adjust and meet the increasing accreditation requirements. The guidelines ensure the certification process is robust, transparent and meets the highest standards.

Venkateswaran added that the announcement demonstrates NABland's commitment to facilitating a smooth transition for accredited laboratories while recognizing the challenges posed by the evolving regulatory environment. Laboratories are encouraged to be aware and proactive about the updated schedule and guidelines issued by NABL. For further queries or clarifications, galleries and fans are encouraged to contact NABL for assistance and support.
