Merck, a company better known as MSD outside of the United States and Canada, stated Wednesday that it would expand its Indian locations over the end of the year. The U.S. based pharmaceutical company has a workforce of about 1,800 active at Indian operations across a variety of therapeutic centers, namely oncology, diabetes, vaccines, animal health, and technology-related functions.
The Merck Technology Centre, inaugurated in Hyderabad earlier this week, is expected to strengthen the firm in South India. It aims to create the company's technological advancements and accelerate healthcare innovation.
David Williams, head of Merck's information and digital area, mentioned the commitment of Merck to recruiting "digital innovators" who will act in close collaboration with business partners to leverage technology and enhance processes-and to lower the time required to do the right treatments for patients.
Well known for being one of the global leaders in health and life sciences, with innovative medicines, vaccines, and animal health products at the forefront, Merck has been in business for about 130 years, operating through 140-odd countries spreading scientific developments that improve the lives of patients.
The booming Indian workforce seems an obvious boost to Merck's investment in digital transformation to ramp up research and development functions to sustain its base in pharmaceutical leadership.
"By the end of this year, we expect to have roughly 2,700 employees. And in a couple of years, I fully expect we'll double that number or more", said Executive Vice President Dave Williams.
