Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Greek Premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis are committed to enhancing cooperation across various sectors like technology, pharmaceuticals, skill development, space, and innovation. In their bilateral meeting, they stressed the importance of strengthening ties, particularly in shipping, connectivity, and defense.
In a post on the micro-blogging site X, Modi described his discussion with Mitsotakis as productive, covering crucial areas like technology, pharmaceuticals, skill development, space, and innovation. He also mentioned their agreement to increase cooperation in critical domains like shipping, connectivity, and defense.
India and Greece have formed a strategic partnership, and Modi visited Greece in 2023. Mitsotakis, while addressing the Raisina Dialogue 2024, highlighted the mutual respect for democracy between Greece and India. He remarked that they view democracy as a facilitator for effective governance, not a hindrance. Prime Minister Modi, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar attended the event.
During his visit to India, Mitsotakis visited Mumbai with a large trade delegation. He supported India's permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council and backed the development of the India-Middle East and Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC).
Mitsotakis also emphasized the GMR Group's participation in developing the Crete airport. Jaishankar, reflecting on India's global engagement, highlighted Modi's role in articulating India's stance on the international stage.
Modi's presence signifies India's growing global role, particularly in the last decade. He added that this confirms the importance of listening, reflecting, and expressing.
Finally, Jaishankar reiterated India and Greece's vision to contribute to global development, saying that both countries have a special responsibility to create the culture of the new world. "We have a long-term view of challenges and opportunities as two ancient nations," he concluded.
