The IMA recently revealed a new booklet named 'Headache Algorithm: A guide to Headache Management' which focuses on managing headache disorders in India. This effort arrives at a critical moment as headache control is the primary reason for neurological disability worldwide.
The unique pamphlet is a component of IMA's health campaign backed by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, the collaborating scientific entity. IMA's goal with this booklet is to bring attention to the high rates of headache disorders, specifically migraines, investigate its various origins, and offer guidance on how to diagnose and treat it.
The booklet provides evidence-based strategies for clinicians to customize their treatment approaches, including sections on primary and secondary headache management, red flag considerations, specialist referral timing, and the correct utilization and placement of abortive and preventive treatments.
The booklet also contains decision algorithms for diagnosing and managing various types of headaches and headache disorders with different comorbidities to improve decision-making in clinical practice.
The esteemed group of eight headache experts includes Dr K Ravishankar (clinical doctor), Dr T K Banerjee (neurology specialist), Dr A V Srinivasan (neurology specialist), Dr Dharmesh Patel (neurology specialist), Dr A V Jayakrishanan (neurosurgery specialist), Dr Bimal Shah (ENT surgeon), Dr Rajan Shah (ENT surgeon), and Dr Jayesh Lele (general practitioner and program organizer). The Hon. secretary general, IMA, has played a crucial role in forming the content of this booklet.
