The Medical Innovations Patent Mitra has been launched by The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to enhance India’s healthcare innovation and patent ecosystem. Ensuring that biomedical research translates into impactful solutions, the initiative aims to provide end-to-end support for patent filings and technology transfers. The initiative is a collaborative effort between ICMR, NITI Aayog, and the Department of Pharmaceuticals, and was unveiled during the International Symposium on Health Technology Assessment, with support from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. It seeks to fill the void between medical research and commercialization by providing assistance to innovators through the patenting process and supporting technology transfer.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda led the launch, highlighting India's commitment to strengthening its position in the global healthcare innovation framework. By fostering a robust patenting ecosystem, Patent Mitra aims to protect indigenous medical innovations and promote self-reliance in healthcare advancements.

The event brought together key contributors, including government officials, industry leaders, investors, and public health experts, to discuss hurdles and pathways in patenting medical innovations. The initiative aligns with India’s wider healthcare objectives, ensuring that scientific advancements contribute effectively to the healthcare sector.
