Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd, based in Pune, opened its largest Formulation Research and Development Centre in Ahmedabad, aimed at facilitating advancements in complex drug delivery methods. The newly established Emcure Research Centre will accommodate approximately 350 expert professionals dedicated to developing innovative formulations, improving drug bioavailability, and designing patient-focused delivery solutions. Among the five R&D facilities, three are dedicated to formulations research, one is dedicated to API research, and one is focused on biopharmaceuticals research.
“This will be our largest R&D facility. Of the 550-odd scientists working with us across the country, over 300 will be working at this new facility. We will be doing a lot of work on complex molecules,” said Satish Mehta, founder and CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals said on the sidelines of the inauguration, Thursday. The company however did not reveal the investment made for the new R&D facility.
“I began my journey in the mid-90s. I was very late. By that time all others were firmly entrenched. I was not among the first 200 companies in India. I quickly realised that if I want to make a mark for Emcure, then we have to give products which are different. That’s the job which my R&D has done. In 2025, as I look back, at my journey of 30 years, my company has given the maximum number of differentiated new products,” he added.
The firm runs approximately 13 production plants in the nation, with the facilities in Jammu, Sikkim, and Bengaluru catering to the local market.
“Though we started from Maharashtra, our manufacturing capacities in Gujarat have exceeded Maharashtra. We have a facility for injectitables in Sanand (near Ahmedabad) from where we export to Europe, US and emerging markets. We have a facility for tablets at Kadu near Surendranagar which is also focussed on exports. We have a third facility for tablets and injectables at Mehsana which serves both the export and domestic markets. This facility exports to Europe, Canada and emerging markets,” Mehta added.
