The Drugs Controller General of India has approved the export of India's first Ebola vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute to Uganda, according to official sources on Thursday. The vaccine was developed by Serum Institute in collaboration with Oxford University in the United Kingdom. According to sources, this vaccine will be used in Uganda for solidarity clinical trials. WHO sought collaboration with ebola vaccine manufacturers for disease prevention and has chosen ChAdOx1 biEBOV as a potential vaccine for participation in a solidarity clinical trial in Uganda. Oxford University has agreed to manufacture ChAdOx1 biEBOV in collaboration with Serum Institute of India.

The approval for export comes after Prakash Kumar Singh, Director of the Serum Institute of India, submitted an application to the Drugs Controller General of India on November 30. "We, Serum Institute of India, are committed to making available various world-class life-saving vaccines to our country and the world at large in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clarion call 'Making in India for the World," Singh was quoted as saying in the application by an official source.
