Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) provides the kind of healthcare services that India should aspire to in its march towards becoming a USD 3 trillion economy and a developed country.

During an inauguration spree on Sunday, Modi unveiled or laid foundation stones of projects worth Rs 48,000 crore, with Rs 35,700 crore being in Gujarat alone.

Speaking at a public meeting in Rajkot after formally inaugurating AIIMS Rajkot, the first in Gujarat, he said the facility would demonstrate why people have unwavering faith in Modi's guarantee.

He laid the foundation stone for the permanent campus of AIIMS Rajkot on the outskirts of Rajkot city in Para Pipaliya village on December 31, 2020.

Along with AIIMS Rajkot, he also virtually inaugurated four other AIIMS facilities in Bathinda of Punjab, Raebareli of Uttar Pradesh, and Kalyani in West Bengal and Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh. AIIMS Rajkot was developed at the cost of Rs 1,195 crore. He thanked Rajkot residents, reminiscing that it was exactly 22 years ago, on February 24, 2002, when he took oath as an MLA for the first time. He added that winning the first election in Rajkot marked a significant step in his political journey and that the entire country is now showering blessings on him.

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to criticize the Congress and the Gandhi family. He pointed out that while the Congress royal family only did politics in Raebareli, Modi's government has done development work there. The Prime Minister cited the example of the Raebareli AIIMS, whose foundation stone he laid five years ago and dedicated to the nation on the day of the speech.
