IRCAD India, a mirror institute of IRCAD France (Strasbourg), has recently been established in collaboration with the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS), Indore, India. It marks the establishment of the first Education and Research and Development (RandD) Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). This complements the existing six IRCAD mirror institutes worldwide.
IRCAD India will start operations in 2024.
IRCAD India is becoming one of the world's largest animal and cadaver laboratories in the SAARC region with 42 state-of-the-art stations equipped with robotic, 3D and 4K technology. This state-of-the-art facility is a global center providing advanced training to surgeons from around the world in the latest surgical techniques.
Renowned Indian bariatric surgeon Dr. Mohit Bhandari, who is globally recognized for his work in bariatric and robotic surgery, heads the center as the Director of IRCAD India.
Speaking about the vision of IRCAD India, a quote from IRCAD India President Dr. Mohit Bhandar said: This training center not only aims to nurture the next generation of surgeons but also aligns with the Prime Minister's Make in India initiative and surgical companies and diagnostic equipment. Manufacturing companies in the country and abroad can do their research and use IRCAD INDIA laboratory for RandD. This will make this expensive instruments/equipment available to patients in Indore and other parts of the country at very affordable rates.
