According to a report published by Markets and Markets, the global specialty chemicals market is projected to reach $364.6 billion by the end of 2028. When it comes to a developing country like India, we can observe widespread development in manufacturing with government initiatives like Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and others. The government has specifically focused on native manufacturing of APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) to boost the nation’s economy. In this regard, it is worth mentioning that specialty chemical manufacturers have benefited from these developments and have been immensely successful in production through dedication and usage of modern technologies. However, clients often face difficulties regarding impurities in a product that result in the deterioration of quality in the end product. In the pharmaceutical industry, everything depends on the purity of a product, and the slightest imbalances can result in utter catastrophes. Kajay Remedies brings a proper market understanding of pharmaceutical specialty chemicals and can provide products with very low impurity levels that can not only easily match but improve upon the quality of a similar composition imported to India.
An adept market understanding makes Kajay Remedies look properly at the customer needs. A zero impurity level is not achievable in this industry, but the company creates refined products with impurity levels as low as possible, making them stand out in the market. “We do not only provide a client with better quality products at competitive prices but also try to bring in innovation in the manufacturing of a product and customize it according to the exact requirements. This adds value to the product of the client, and we call it Value Innovation,” mentions Ajay Saboo, Managing Director, Kajay Remedies.
Operational Excellence
To understand how Kajay Remedies brings about a difference in the manufacturing process, one needs to know about the intricacies involved in its preliminary interactions with clients. In this industry, burdened by the weight of non-disclosure agreements and product guidelines, many times clients are hesitant to disclose the processes that the supplied products will go through. Kajay Remedies challenges this aspect to customize an accurate product for the client. It emphasizes that the client discloses the nature of the end product or what kind of processes the products will go through. This brings further clarity in the production, and the company also makes sure that an accurate amount of the product is provided to avoid any kind of wastage. “Once it happened that a client wanted exactly 330 kgs of a product and not a bit more. We customized batches in multiples of 330 kgs for this client and did not provide an industry-standard amount of 500 or 1000 kgs. In this way, we ensured that no wastage of our product could mean a financial loss to our client,” says the MD.

The company believes in keeping healthy business relationships in the niche market it is involved in. It is a very complex process through which APIs are manufactured and consists of several steps, the equipment and infrastructure for which might not be available with every manufacturer. Here, the company has come up with a very efficient plan. Hypothetically, if it is the case that Kajay Remedies does not have the infrastructure for the chemical process of bromination, it has outsourced it from another provider who has it, and since that time, it has taken the support of that company for all its bromination requirements; and also avoided getting into this activity directly to win the confidence and long term continuity of business for the provider of this facility. “We are associated with various small and medium-sized enterprises for specific process requirements, and sometimes it is a three or four-way production and supply process that creates an ecosystem around the final production of the material,” states the MD.
Kajay Remedies also takes the training and development of key employees very seriously and often sponsors crash courses for them to make them understand the processes and other aspects of the industry better and gain knowledge and understanding of work. The knowledge gained by the employees and thereafter the training provided by them to the next rung of workers ultimately becomes highly instrumental in the business development of the company, and increasing its capability to offer the world’s best quality products in whichever product the company offers to its customers. This capability of the company is recognized by its competitors too.
Looking Ahead
Since its ISO 9001 certification in 2005, Kajay Remedies has never had to look back and has gained considerable trust and recognition in the market. The company will shortly be coming up with a new API manufacturing unit where it will have its own Hydrogenation capacity and Acetylation capacity. It will be partly operational by the middle of the coming financial year and will be fully operational by the end of it. “In the coming year, we are also looking at a three times growth in revenue, and we also hope to add more clients to our portfolio,” concludes the MD.
Kajay Remedies will also be having another unit which is likely to commence manufacturing in the 1st quarter of FY 24-25 which will be primarily an Agrochemical focused unit. However, some of the intermediates manufactured in this unit have an application in API and Pharmaceuticals too. Parallelly, it has a pipeline of 9 products & 1 technology, in various stages of R&D which will be launched in the coming years. Some of these 9 products will be available for the 1st time from India on at commercial scale. The technology for successful implementation will be available for the 1st time in the world.
